The UPS and DOWNS in the Life of an Indian Street Dog
I met Grace from Rishikesh Animal Care when i found a very young puppy in need of care on the street and she helped me find her medical care, and fostered the puppy until it could be adopted internationally.
She met SPARKLE (aka Socks) when she was a puppy. She has had a difficult life so far. Born in a litter of four, her mother died a few days after her birth (they say she was taken by a Tiger). A kind construction worker brought all four puppies to his work site, and Grace helped in their care from the early days. Sparkle was sterilised and was fed and checked up on throughout her puppy-hood.
Some street dogs just aren't cut out for the streets - and Sparkle is one of them. She recently suffered a traumatic injury to her back legs - perhaps barbed wire, another dog, a motorbike. We don't know.
She had to come off the street, out of the rain and mud, for a chance for recovery. My parents heard Sparkle’s story and fell in love with her, and they want to give her a home here in England. A local adoption just isnt a reality, so for this sweet dog to have a home, looking abroad is her only real option.
The cost to bring a dog to the UK from India is extremely expensive, but worth it - and we have been rallying together to make it a possibility. Any small donation would be so appreciated.
