1All young people deserve to feel safe, nurtured and empowered.
But not all young people are as lucky to grow up within caring, supportive and safe communities. In the UK, lots of children are raised in poor households, experience trauma, get excluded from school and witness crime and violence in their neighbourhoods almost daily.
Every year, thousands of vulnerable young people are recruited by gangs or are harmed through serious violent incidents, such as knife crime. Last year 13,743 children were cautioned or sentenced. Instead of enjoying life, many young people can end up losing their lives or becoming physically and emotionally scarred for life. Families are also impacted, feeling powerless and traumatised.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
