About Southwell Torpedos
Torpedos was founded in Southwell, Nottinghamshire on March 15th 2020 in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Torpedos is an anagram of "doorstep" which is where we provide help. We have made over 500 doorstep deliveries of prescriptions, food and other essentials to those in Southwell and the surrounding area who are staying home to stay safe - all thanks to the the amazing team of local volunteers who have stepped forward since March.
We are now established as a community support group with an appropriate constitution, managing committee and bank account. You can see more on our website www.thetorpedos.org.
We are working with Southwell Town Council, who take telephone calls at their central hub, before allocating to us. And we couldn't operate without the support of local businesses who are dispensing medications, and are where we shop. We are also working closely with Southwell Live-At Home Scheme.
Whilst we are focused now on needs created by the current crisis, our secondary aim is to create an enduring legacy of volunteers and community support structures which can continue to deliver help to the vulnerable and isolated in our community after the immediate Covid-19 crisis has passed.
Our Fundraising
It's clear that there are many people in town who are able to contribute either as a volunteer or by offering other resources, and who are motivated to help make our community more resilient and supportive of those who find themselves in need - either as a result of self-isolating to protect against infection or for other reasons.
So if you can help, we will gratefully receive any contribution you can make.
Funds raised will help sustain Torpedos' work into the future, as well as meeting short term needs now.
