Southgate School is a school for young people with complex SEN and is located in Almondbury, Huddersfield. All our pupils have an EHCP for complex special educational needs. Pupils are aged between 4 and 16, and have a range of learning and physical disabilities.
Our school was one of the early adopters of outdoor education and has been incredibly successful over the last 20 years, combining regular, challenging multi-day expeditions, with school based activities, including a comprehensive Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
In 2016 a group of 6 pupils were the first additional needs school in Kirklees to climb Mt Snowdon! An amazing achievement! This will be the 7th year we will be running this successful expedition.
We are asking for your support to help contribute, no matter how small to help us to continue to provide these opportunities to our pupils.
Challenging the perceived limitations of disability and developing self-belief, team work skills and an awareness of the world around them is achieved through outdoor education and is an essential element of our curriculum. Being outdoors gives Southgate youngsters the opportunity to discover their potential, interact socially and learn many valuable new skills. This truly brings out the best in the pupils!
Raising funds for our expeditions and daily outdoor activities is crucial in continuing to improve the lives, wellbeing and opportunities for our pupils. The memories and experience our pupils gain from this is priceless!
All the money we raise will go towards our Snowdon expedition and future residential opportunities as well as funding our very successful outdoor programme.
We hope that you will be able to help us.
