Contakt has staged 11 self-funded events over the past eight years, including collaborations with invited artists, but Soundmarks is an ambitious arts project on a grand scale, and we are looking for funding to create this unique and exciting event.
Soundmarks is a modern ‘variety show’, which will take place on Sunday, 20 March 2016 at the beautiful, refurbished Hoxton Hall in Hackney, east London. The event will be organized by Contakt, the contemporary music ensemble and will include 30 guest artists.
The event has two sections: a series of events between 1pm and 5pm in various spaces throughout the building (including the theatre, foyer, bar and several smaller rooms); and a concert in the evening in the theatre.
Soundmarks explores the significance of place in music and our collective and individual lives, by bringing together over 30 musicians (instrumentalists, singers), poets, dancers, and visual artists to explore soundworlds from contemporary classical to Bengali music, African-Cuban to Middle –Eastern genres, electro-acoustic sound to video projections and other visual arts.
