SOUL (Singing, Outreach, Unity & Love)

WE ARE ON A MISSION TO GET BRITAIN SINGING THIS YEAR!

Can you help us with our mission? We have challenged ourselves and The BIG Sing choirs to raise £50,000 to get Britain singing!!!!

Backed by science and fuelled by passion, both our charity and The BIG Sing champions the well-documented benefits of singing: from reducing anxiety and boosting mood, to enhancing focus and building confidence. But beyond the personal gains, choir singing fosters a deep sense of belonging, intergenerational bonding, and meaningful social connections. We see this magic first hand through our 19 projects that reach up to 600 people each week in local communities across Essex, Kent & the Midlands.

OUR PROJECTS

  • TINY sings, for 0-4 year olds and their carers to experience interactive music sessions.
  • Daytime SOUL choirs for people who cannot get to an evening BIG Sing choir.
  • ELEVATE choirs for those living with illness and disability.
  • Online resources for schools used by nearly 1000 schools in over 22 countries. We love to unite local schools in areas where there is a BIG Sing choir to perform together as well!
  • Online resources for care homes and special performances from our daytime SOUL choirs and The BIG Sing choirs.

Thank you for donating and supporting our charity and the work we do, for more information please see below or look at our website www.big-sing.com/charity.

Our aim - SOUL's aim is to to make the therapeutic joy of singing accessible to all, from the youngest child to the oldest grandparent. We love taking uplifting music into schools, nurseries, care homes, hospitals and groups for those living with illness and disability. With a strong ethos of community, we are told weekly how beneficial our projects are. Here are just a few of the many examples:

  • Children have gained in self-confidence and their speech has improved at our TINY Sings
  • Vulnerable adults, those living with illness and disability, have seen improvements in their health and their memory
  • School children have gained in confidence
  • Care home residents have become happier and more content after a singing session
  • Our daytime SOUL choir members have welcomed isolated people into their group, helping them overcome depression and grief and to feel part of their local  community.

Our History

In 2011 The BIG Sing was founded by Gemma & Howard Francis, having performed alongside some BIG names and being full time members of The London Community Gospel Choir, they are passionate about making a difference in our communities. Over the last thirteen years The BIG Sing have performed, singing inspirational songs, on Britain’s Got Talent in 2023 and 2024 getting four yesses! They have also performed alongside Mica Paris, David Grant, Ellie Goulding, Leah McFall (from BBC The Voice) Blake, London Community Gospel Choir, sung for Jamie Oliver and toured with Leona Lewis. The BIG Sing gospel choir won BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year in 2017, and were also asked to sing for ITV’s X-Factor. During this time, they realised the power of MUSIC! Seeing how uplifting songs have united everyone right from babies to grandparents. People told them weekly, stories of how the songs helped them overcome isolation, depression, loneliness, illness and created so many new friendships. Knowing that, we had to reach out to more people in the community, to those who really need to feel these benefits, so we started our own charity The BIG Sing SOUL in 2017. To ensure that our charity had the best start and the infrastructure in place to grow, we became a charitable activity of Imagine The Day Ltd (Registered Charity Number 1100673). After seven years working with Imagine the Day our charity has successfully raised over £200k, delivering 160 projects and benefitting over 150,000 people. The Charity Commission granted us our very own charity status in November 2024 and so from January 2025 our charity became known as SOUL (Singing, Outreach, Unity & Love) to continue its mission.

SOUL (Singing, Outreach, Unity & Love) is a Registered Charity 1211136.
