Saturday Soup Day! Food-People-Community

Grange Over Sands Community Foodshare is a grassroots environmental charity dedicated to combating food insecurity and promoting environmental sustainability while enhancing community wellbeing.

Based in our rural town, we serve a population predominantly comprising elderly local people who can be socially isolated and in need of regular hot meals, alongside hardworking, young families struggling to make ends meet while working in the local tourist economy.

Our solution? -  Saturday Soup Days! Each week our volunteers gather in our 5-star hygiene rated kitchen to prepare a nutritious hot lunch using surplus food that's not only delicious but also environmentally friendly. This very popular initiative addresses food insecurity and fosters social connections amongst the most vulnerable in our community.

We enjoy a fantastic working relationship with Fareshare, the biggest national charity in the U.K. saving surplus food from going to landfill . All our meals are carbon zero, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.

Our dedicated team takes pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere, complete with freshly baked bread and a beautiful table setting. For many attendees, particularly one elderly lady who calls it 'the highlight of her week', this work provides so much joy and support, for everyone involved!

We are asking for £3500 to help us to continue and expand Saturday Soup Day. Any surplus funds will go towards supporting similar projects in our charity or extending the reach of our work, amplifying our team efforts to combat food insecurity and strengthen community ties.
