Smethwick Church Action Network emerged in 2014 after a group of churches met together with a shared vision to address the physical needs of their neighbours in Smethwick, specifically through food.
Since becoming a registered charity, Smethwick CAN has expanded its work to include not just a Foodbank, but a Food Pantry, Growing Spaces, co-working spaces, supporting social enterprises, emergency response support and various other projects designed to get people on their feet, happy and healthy after difficult times.
Our work starts with not wanting to see our neighbours hungry and it ends when they are living their best lives. We want to develop our work so that we can beyond meeting just practical needs but also provide hope and opportunity to transform lives for the long term.
During Covid-19 Pandemic we saw a 350% increase in demand supporting in excess of 7,000 people and the community response was amazing from organising street collections (featured on BBC Midlands Today), business donations and volunteer support to name just a few.
We were also able to provide Homeless Support Packs in a rucksack with socks, sleeping bags, toiletries etc. and Family Support Packs for those families accessing foodbank and pantry with items such as toys and colouring books.
Every individual donation from now until December 15th will be matched by the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund (up to £250 per individual donation and up to a maximum of £10,000 in total).
We need to raise £10,000 to be able to access this funding so please do consider supporting us so we can double your donation which can then help us to Serve Needs, Empower Growth and Offer Hope in 2022 and beyond.
