Support Shrewton Silver Band

Shrewton Silver Band is part of a national initiative launched by Brass Bands England to save the many UK brass bands who are struggling to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic. Brass bands are a core of their local community, and many risk disappearing altogether without your help. 

Shrewton Silver Band is asking for donations to help ensure the future of both the Main Band and the Training Band at this difficult time. 

In a normal year, the band earns almost all of it's income from performing at concerts, marches, private functions and a range of summer and Christmas events in and around Shrewton, Salisbury and Wiltshire. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the band has not been able to perform in 2020 and therefore has had no income.

We have not qualified for any Government support, but we still have running costs that we need to meet and we also now need to invest in protective rehearsal equipment to enable the band to return to practices safely, hopefully in December.

Every type of support from you is very welcome -making a financial donation or buying a reward would both be amazing. You could also offer an item or service that we can add to our reward page offering to raise money for the band. Every donation big or small is most gratefully received!

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our brass band and our training band are at risk due to the pandemic, we need to raise funds to cover our normal running costs and to purchase protective screens and other "Covid-proofing" equipment, so that we can return to rehearsals safely and ensure the future of both of the bands. We don't want to become another statistic of brass band closures and we strongly believe that the heritage and future of the band must be preserved for the local communities in and around Shrewton and Salisbury.

About the band

Shrewton Silver Band is a local village band based near Stonehenge in Wiltshire. We are one of the oldest bands in the country, with earliest reports of the band dating back to the 1830s.

In Shrewton, our home village, we have performed for many years at the Annual Flower Show, the Christmas Concert at St Mary's Church and The Remembrance Day Parade and Service with the Royal British Legion. Through the run up to Christmas each year, the band delights villagers with carols played on their doorsteps. 

How many times have we heard "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the band carolling around the village."?

The band supports the Royal British Legion in a number of events each year right across Wiltshire and lead the annual Armed Forces Day Veterans Parade in Trowbridge as well as the Mayor Making Parade in Salisbury every May. We have played at Carfest South, Centreparcs, Stonehenge, Longleat, St George's Chapel in Windsor and numerous village fetes, Army functions and official and private celebrations.

Due to our location on Salisbury Plain, our players travel to rehearsals from across 4 counties; Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset and we are a truly family band with many related players in the band including several generations of more than one family playing across the two bands.

Our Training Band currently has about 12 players ranging from 8 years old to 70+. The training band took part in their first contest in January and were amazing, but the pandemic and lack of practices is increasing the risk that the younger players may leave as they find other things to do with their spare time.

The feedback that we hear from the residents of Shrewton and the general public who see us performing right across the county, is so heart-warming and encouraging and we truly hope that we can continue to operate post-Covid in the same way, but we need your support to guarantee our continued future and success.

The draw will take place at 2000 on the 18th December. (along with the Christmas Cake draw). This can be viewed on Zoom and a link will be sent at the time of donation.  It will also be shown on facebook live.  Winners not viewing on zoom will be contacted separately.

 Prizes can be picked up from Shrewton or can be delivered for free within a 20 mile radius of Shrewton.

Christmas Cake Raffle Time!

Enter our Cake  Raffle to be in with a chance to win one of 5 amazing Jennylicious Christmas Cakes.

You could win one of these Classic Rich Fruit Christmas Cakes, each fed with brandy and individually decorated with love by Jenny from ‘JennyliciousCakes’ who has just been announced as one of the top 10 Cake Artists in the country. The cakes range in size from 5” to 7” and are about 3" deep, decorated with Marzipan and Sugarpaste.

 Collection is from Winterslow near Salisbury or delivery is available if needed up to an hours drive maximum. ( Jenny will charge 45p per mile delivery). 

The Girly Gnome is made using rice crispy and marshmallows and sculpted with modelling chocolate, The cake is finished off with glittery sugar trees.

The Christmas Tree is again a rice crispy and marshmallow creation decorated with completely edible sugar decoration, presents, candy canes, snowflakes and gingerbread men!

The Christmas wreath is a simple ivory design with a wired sugar poinsettia flower and sugar foliage nuts and berries, covered in icy lustre dust!

The Bobble Hat cake is topped again with a rice crispy and marshmallow top with sugarpaste knitting effect, the gloves are also made using sugarpaste.

 The winter village is sat atop a midnight navy cake decorated with a blanket of glittery snow, the modelled houses and trees are made using sugarpaste.

About Save Our Brass Bands

Brass bands exist in every corner of the UK, with over 30,000 people of all ages and standards taking part in weekly activity – rehearsing, performing and providing entertainment for their local community.

But we risk losing this forever.

Brass Bands saw their main source of income disappear in an instant when they ceased being able to perform in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Months later, we still don’t know when normal performances will be able to take place. A significant loss in income over the Summer months, paired with necessary expenditure needed to make rehearsal spaces Covid compliant means that many Brass Bands are in a perilous financial situation.

Without urgent support, we could lose our nation’s amazing Brass Bands. Please help us to make sure they survive this crisis and will be there to be enjoyed by future generations.
