The Greens are the fastest growing political party in Shropshire. We are raising funds for a successful local election campaign.

The Greens are the fastest growing political party in Shropshire. At the last local elections in 2021 we went from a single councillor to four, which gave us group status able to put forward our own motions, and seats on a number of important committees including planning.

Having Greens in the room has made a difference:  for instance we were the first to put forward positive suggestions for the council budget, after years of the other opposition parties criticising but failing to come up with their own ideas. This prompted the Tories to try and include all parties in budget consultations - it was a flawed process, and too late in the day, but showed they had taken notice.

We have led opposition to the North West Road in the council, pointing out that not only does it not solve the traffic problems in Shrewsbury (it would create more) but it is bad news for every area of Shropshire which is losing money that could be spent locally.

One of our councillors, Julian Dean, also works for the Green Party and is in regular contact with Green councillors across the country, so we have good access to Green ideas that could work here.

Since 2021 we've had two Greens on Shropshire Council here in Shrewsbury ,and two on Shrewsbury Town Council. This year we're aiming to increase those numbers again, and along with fellow Greens across Shropshire we're ready to work with whatever group controls the council after 1 May. Everyone expects the Tories to lose control after 16 long years of bad management and financial crises; but it's not yet clear who the beneficiaries will be in terms of council seats. It's all to play for!

Our volunteers are campaigning hard to keep the two council seats we hold - Porthill and Radbrook - and win a new one - Battlefield, an  area where all the parties fancy their chances but we are the only ones who have been working on the ground for two years, with  litter picks, asking bus companies for improvements, reporting fly tipping  and more. This doesn't stop the other parties, particularly the Lib Dems, telling voters that we have no chance - even more reason to make sure we have a strong campaign.

£120-£200 pays for one piece of literature to all the houses in one ward (depending on size and design)

Based on this, we aim to raise £1200 per ward, £3600 altogether.

Raising more will give us more options - maybe  helping our neighbouring Greens, or paying for a delivery so we can give our hard - working volunteers a break.

Anything you can give will be much appreciated and every £1 will go towards our campaigns. If we raise more than we need the extra will go towards supporting our new councillors after 1 May,  and keeping residents informed with regular newsletters.

Many thanks
