Shinepinehurst is a local resident led initiative working with children, young people and their families at risk, on the Pinehurst, Moredon and Penhill estates, Swindon. The children and families we work with are at risk due to a number of factors including criminal and sexual exploitation by local and ‘county’ drug lines, youth violence or the effects of deprivation.
At any point in any given week we can be working with young people who is finding they need to carry a knife to feel safe, a child scared for her Mum due to the step-dads alcohol abuse and resulting violence, a parent struggling with acute mental health issues and needing help with food, supporting a young carer who is finding life overwhelming. It is into these lives that we have been able to offer support, care, concern, opportunities for them to engage in positive activities including Youth Clubs, Support groups, Community social action, family workshops and sports activities.
