SHARE PSYCHOTHERAPY

RCN 1130400, Sheffield

We provide long-term 1-1 psychotherapy in a range of modalities, at a lower cost. We also provide placements and training opportunities for upcoming cohorts of therapists and practitioners.

SHARE PSYCHOTHERAPY

Share Psychotherapy is a small, charitable organisation with a fantastic cohort of experienced volunteers and talented trainee practitioners, who work together to provide 1-1 therapy of typically 2 years of weekly appointments with a designated therapist, providing longer running support than the NHS and statutory services can unfortunately offer, at a lower price than traditional private therapy. By doing so, we want to ensure that barriers to accessing therapy are removed, and that we are able to work directly with individuals who would be unable to access such support elsewhere. We have experience working with a range of topics, including but not limited to:

- Relationships

- Depression

- Anxiety & panic attacks

- Lack of self esteem

- Sexual and/or physical abuse

- Stress

- Bereavement

- Illness

- Anger/violence

- Eating disorders

- Phobias

Fees for our sessions are set by a pay-what-you-can basis, and we invite clients to identify on a scale. We don't check, or pry, and trust that by being transparent about the reality of being a small charity, that people are honest with us too. An hour of therapy, costs us as an organisation, on average £42 to provide, and our weekly fees begin at £10 per hour. We support our clients financially who are experiencing significant hardship, and want to ensure that financial worries and budgeting concerns aren't preventing people from accessing the support they need and deserve.

We deliver thousands of hours of therapy each year, with over 100 clients weekly.

“My therapist was the best thing to happen to me. I went in unable to sleep, eat or exercise properly. I was struggling to concentrate and complete my course but she gave me my life back.”

"I have a lot of mental health issues resulting from childhood trauma, and I have found working with my therapist has helped me to understand how my brain works and process some of those traumas.

“This has probably been the biggest change. I have gone from seeing myself as a burden and an annoyance to being my own friend. I care about myself now and I am able to take care of myself – be my own friend and parent myself.”

"It was also so helpful to be able to get it for a reduced fee, it was still a bit difficult financially, but it was certainly worth it because I never thought I’d be able to afford long-term psychotherapy and I’m grateful for that.”

“It is amazing that Share makes therapy financially accessible. Without it I wouldn’t have been able to get support. It is good that Share allows clients to pay what they can for quality therapy.”

"It took a long time but I now find myself much more able to handle my emotions and thoughts and am ultimately much happier for it."

We are fundraising for our upcoming move into a new building! We are renting tenants and have made the difficult decision to leave our current home of 18 years, in order to increase our capacity, see more clients, reduce our waiting lists and ensure we are prioritising our core finances are being spent on our clients, service and charitable aims. We have made this difficult decision after needing to spend large sums of money on repairing and maintaining our current building for our landlords, and so we are able to operate safely and comfortably.

Because of the cost-of-living crisis, the funding landscape is more competitive than ever, and our clients are experiencing significant financial strain, meaning our income as a small charity has also reduced substantially. We are very fortunate to receive regular funding from our network of donors and Trusts, however we are not out of the woods yet, and whilst this move will mean we can achieve greater results from a service delivery point of view, we are already operating with limited resources.

The sum raised will go directly to contributing to moving costs, helping replenish funds spent on repairs and maintenance, and helping us furnish our warm, comforting and safe space for our clients and therapists. With any extra donations, we also want to investigate renting wheelchair accessible external therapy rooms, as regrettably our new premises does not have this, and we want to ensure we are serving all communities and people of our city.
