Help ShakeCo fund their hilarious production of 'The Tempest'

by Exeter University Shakespeare Company in Exeter, England, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 23rd January 2023 we'd raised £220 with 7 supporters in 14 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Our eye-catching adaptation sees Shakespeare's beloved last play taking place on an Ibiza bound party boat before a raging storm shipwrecks our stag party on Prospero's grotty island beach club. This high energy, ensemble driven and of course hilarious production focuses on the effects of modern day consumerism focuses on the effects of modern day consumerism and how our actions affect each other and the natural world around us. With power, revenge, love and magic, don't miss our thrilling version of Shakespeare's classic comedy in The Lemon Grove this month. Since September, the cast and production team have been working hard to bring this exciting vision to life and your generous donations will ensure we reach our goal of producing the play entirely sustainably.

Where is your money going?

There are lots of different costs we need to cover, from staging and technical equipment hire to costumes and marketing expenditure. We want to be as transparent as possible, therefore, we have included a detailed breakdown of projected income and expenditure below:

  • Costume, Hair and Make Up - £400
  • Tech - £700
  • Props: £75

In addition to our crowdfunder we'll also be holding a fundraiser this term in another effort to make sure our production looks the best it can whilst maintaining our sustainability goals.

ABOUT US:

  • Here at ShakeCo, we have a focus on Shakespeare and his contemporaries - recent productions include ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, ‘Julius Caesar’, and ‘Timon of Athens.’
  • We run a 48 Hour play in each term, and larger productions throughout the year. 48 Hour plays are rehearsed, produced, and finally performed over a 48hr intensive period. Our larger 'Found Space' and Spectacle productions have a bigger budget and have the opportunity to run at full length! We also run an outdoor Summer tour in June.
  • We also have a series of smaller projects that our members can get involved with. These include workshops on how to handle Elizabethan text, film-making projects, academic debates, local school's performance initiative, and socials!
  • To keep updated on these and other exciting activities, like us on Facebook and join our members' group. We're always looking for ideas and proposals, so if there is something Shakespearian you have always wanted to do, let us know! We are always open to new talent and new ideas, giving you the opportunity to build up your theatrical experience.
  • If you want to get in contact with us, you can go to any of our committee directly, or via the Facebook or Instagram pages @exeterunishakeco
