As a mum to two children with complex special needs, I am more than aware of the lack of support and sensory provision for children and adults with special needs. A sensory centre should be a place of comfort, exploration, and inclusion—but without accessible toileting facilities, many individuals with disabilities face unnecessary barriers.
With this centre, in the heart of Thackley, we will strive to provide a safe and enjoyable sensory space that so many need. Having experienced the lack of support, accessible provision and facilities for my own family, I want to promote inclusivity, a safe haven and help meet the therapeutic need of so many.
Currently our chosen premises requires some significant work to ensure that we can provide the standard of care and adaptations required. We’re raising funds to install a fully equipped, accessible toileting facility, ensuring that everyone who visits our sensory centre can do so with dignity and ease. A spacious layout, support rails, and changing area will provide much-needed accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges and complex needs.
To provide rooms with bespoke equipment, resources and lighting to meet therapeutic needs, provide support and emotional wellbeing whilst being inclusive for all.

Sowing Seeds Wellbeing CIC is a registered not for profit CIC (Community Interest Company) is committed to delivering an essential and innovative service that addresses a critical gap in community provision for individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and adults living with dementia. Our mission is to create a highly supportive, accessible, and inclusive environment where individuals can engage safely in sensory-based, outdoor, and nature-focused experiences tailored to their unique needs.
In many communities, there is a significant lack of dedicated spaces that offer the therapeutic benefits of sensory stimulation and structured nature-based engagement. Our sensory environments, horticultural therapy areas, and forest school activities provide vital opportunities for cognitive stimulation, emotional regulation, physical development, and social connection.
We aim to be a cornerstone of support, working collaboratively with families, caregivers, and professionals to improve quality of life and promote holistic well-being through meaningful and purposeful interaction with the natural world. Through this work, Sowing Seeds Sensory not only meets an urgent local need but also sets a new standard for inclusive, nurturing education and wellbeing service.
