Aim: To provide a safe, inclusive play space where SEN/DEN children can explore, grow, and thrive through sensory-rich activities.

Help Us Create Halton’s First Inclusive SEN Den Play Centre — Inspired by Oliver’s Journey

Hi, I’m Jamie Lee, a mum to an incredible 5-year-old boy named Oliver. Oliver is autistic, non-verbal, and has a rare chromosome gene deletion along with other complex needs including sensory processing disorder, developmental delay, epilepsy, tic disorder and is non verbal. Like many parents of children with additional needs, I’ve faced the heartbreaking reality that there are few — if any — safe, inclusive spaces where Oliver can just be himself.

That’s why I’m launching a project close to my heart: Halton’s first dedicated play centre for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

This play centre is being created because children like Oliver deserve better. They deserve exclusive spaces that don’t overwhelm them, places where their behaviours are understood, and environments that support their development and well-being. And equally important — parents and carers deserve a break from isolation and the chance to connect with others who truly get it.

What Makes This Different?

  • Designed for SEN and disabled children: Every part of the play space will be created with sensory needs, accessibility, and emotional regulation in mind.
  • No childcare element: This is not a drop-off centre — parents and carers will stay with their children, making it a safe and supported shared experience.
  • Parent & carer space: We’ll have a dedicated area where families can relax, chat, and support each other — helping build a strong local community.
  • A space for schools & professionals: The centre can be hired by local SEN schools, nurseries, or specialist provisions for exclusive access or staff training.
  • Inclusive birthday party hire: Families will also be able to book the space for celebrations without the stress or judgment that often comes with typical venues.

How We’ll Use Your Support:

  • Create sensory-safe play zones with specialist equipment
  • Build calming, low-stimulation areas for regulation and rest
  • Fit out a welcoming parent/carer support area
  • Provide accessible, inclusive design throughout the space
  • Cover essential start-up costs, safety compliance, and staff training (non-childcare)
  • Promote outreach to local schools, professionals, and SEN networks

There is nothing like this in Halton right now. We want to change that — for Oliver, and for every child and family walking a similar path. Your support will help us create a place where children are celebrated, families feel less alone, and our community becomes that little bit more inclusive.

Thank you for helping bring this vision to life. 💙
