Sucess!
Christ Church, Isle of Dogs ran a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2019 to widen the use of the main area of the church to community activities by replacing heavy bench pews with light, flexible-use wooden chairs. This change transformed how we responded to COVID, and since the pandemic it has meant that more groups use our facilities; karate classes, dance classes, choral groups, police ward panels, television and film companies, pocket opera companies. It is an exciting change.
What's next?
Now we want to take our development further. In a fast moving information age , we find our residents get left behind. We want to use every opportunity when the church is in use for community to inform users of other local opportunities using a drop-down screen and a high-powered LED projector, installed at high level to prevent tampering or theft. This system will double as a community cinema (Christ Church has experience running outdoor and indoor cinema clubs). The projection facilities will be used by the church for information and education, and by companies using the church for off-site meetings.
How we will spend the money.
Money raised from this crowd funding campaign will be used to design the system, install the additional wiring needed, install and commission the equipment and run a week long film festival.
