Secret World Wildlife Rescue

RCN 1097119, Highbridge

Secret World Wildlife Rescue (SWWR) exists to relieve the suffering of British wildlife, to encourage respect and tolerance for wildlife and to further its conservation. We do this by: Providing a public rescue, rehabilitation and release service for injured, sick and orphaned wildlife; educating the public, delivering conservation projects, disseminating data and delivering professional training.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and eventual release of British wildlife. Every year we help around 5,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals and birds.

Based in Somerset, we are a well-respected source of expertise and a centre of excellence where all British wildlife can receive the best possible care. We believe that every animal is important, and we respond to every call for help.  We are passionate about the natural world and seek to inspire learning about the world of British wildlife, encouraging everyone to discover what they can do to protect it.

We know British wildlife is in trouble. Around 40% of the wildlife casualties we care for find themselves in trouble because of human activities. Common reasons for admission to our centre include:

  • being caught in garden netting, discarded fishing equipment, and general waste
  • nests being disturbed
  • road traffic accidents
  • gardening accidents such as strimmer injuries
  • persecution and intentional cruelty

Education is a huge part of our work and we use the animals we care for as examples to show people how they can look out for wildlife. We have an on-site Learning Centre and offer an extensive learning programme with content for all ages and abilities, covering:

  • sessions for pre-school and school groups about issues affecting wildlife and the environment, including litter, climate change, and habitat. These are delivered at our site, or in schools
  • family-friendly open activity weekends where people can come to our centre and learn more about our work
  • adult learning courses for wildlife rehabilitators and enthusiasts
  • Continued Professional Development for veterinary professionals

Please consider a donation today to help give sick, injured, and orphaned British wildlife a second chance at life in the wild.
