We are turning an unloved site on Seaside Road, Eastbourne, into a new community garden, which will be safe and accessible for all.

We're still collecting donations

On the 13th January 2022 we'd raised £5,005 with 58 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

New stretch target

Reaching our initial target will allow us to make the garden a reality, once we have achieved this goal, any additional funds will increase the ambition of what we can do, and secure the legacy of the project. With additional funds, we could: commission artists to make new work for the garden; fund community wellbeing programmes inspired by plants and nature; maintain the garden and ensure it is a place the community can be proud of long into the future.

What Are We Doing?

Devonshire Collective is committed to bringing our local community together through fun activities and creative learning. We are a network of creative spaces along Seaside Road in Eastbourne, comprising a gallery, artist studios and a learning and engagement programme.

We are crowdfunding to turn an unloved patch of land outside 137 Seaside Road, Eastbourne, into a vibrant, accessible and safe new public space for the community. Currently a problem site for anti-social behaviour and drug dealing, this garden will be a new managed, securely fenced, accessible public space for the benefit of the local community.

How Will We Achieve It?

The funds raised will enable us to securely fence the perimeter, using sustainable and reclaimed local wood. We will landscape the area, planting colourful and pollinating plants, as well as creating an accessible area with raised planters and a potting shed.

We will be collaborating with local makers at Eastbourne Studio Pottery who will help us design and decorate the garden. Additionally, we will work with the Rough Sleepers Initiative on the landscaping and maintenance of the garden, alongside providing introductory sessions on horticulture, providing pathways into further training and employment. We will also be helped by Bourne Primary School, engaging the children in aspects of the garden's design. This local school do not have a garden on their grounds, so we are also creating a new space for children to engage with nature on their doorstep.

What's Next?

Once up and running, Devonshire Collective will host an exciting range of free and engaging activities in the garden, from talks, to introductions to horticulture and creative making workshops.

We are so excited to create a new public space for the community in Eastbourne, and have already secured a portion of what we need to make this dream a reality.

The money raised via this crowdfunder will go directly towards the landscaping of the garden, creating pathways into work for rough sleepers, and funding a programme of activity for the local community.

Plus - any funds we raise here will be generously matched by Projects That Matter, funded by East Sussex County Council, so your donation will count for double! (see below for the milestones we need to reach):
