Hello!
My name is Paula and I am a 32 year old Spanish woman who has lived in the magical city of Edinburgh for almost three years.
Last November my stepfather died (but as if he were my father) of coronavirus. It took me a month to find a flight to take me to Spain and I had to wait for both my mother and my brothers to pass the virus before I could go home. We couldn't say goodbye to him. All the complicated circumstances came together. During that month of waiting I took refuge more than ever in Edinburgh, my magic city.
My stepfather was a photographer, so when I returned from Spain, I brought a crystal ball (photoball) that he used to take photos. At first I did not know very well what I was going to do with her, I put her in the suitcase as an emotional attachment to him, but a few days after arriving in Edinburgh I took her with me for a walk, and I started taking pictures with her at all my favorite places in the city. He always wanted to visit Edinburgh, but in the end he never could, so every day I put the crystal ball in my bag (even though it weighs a lot haha) and walk it with me and take pictures in my favorite places as if it were him.
Day by day he perfected them. I feel him with me every time I take these types of photos with his photoball, until I finally realized that this precious project had been born from my grief, that from my darkness and pain, the light had come out in the form of magic and creativity.
This is what has healed my pain.
Well, it occurred to me to make a photographic exhibition with them, after many people asked me and I think it is the best way I have to say goodbye to him and pay tribute to him. Remember our photographic walks together and all the love that he leaves me.
I would like to show how there is always light in any darkness. How the wound can heal creatively.
