Aim

Hi and thank you for reading our application for £2,000 to get our project off the ground. My name is Andrea Campbell and I am the owner of Students of Sound. Students of Sound is a not for profit community project that offers a combination of performer booking agency services for corporate, civic, private and community events, artist representation for young performers (up to the age of 24) in the Midlands and free business workshops for aspiring performers to educate them around the management of their own careers. We would appreciate your support to help us fund our launch event and to cover some of the minor administration costs such as our incorporation as a community interest company (CIC). In addition, many young artists have financial barriers that prevent them accessing professional equipment or services. Our business will be not for profit, as any surplus money will be used to fund our free workshops and to offer some of our performers professional tools to further their careers, for example photography sessions and recording equipment/studios. So how does it work? Our Booking Agency I have strong links into event organisers/venue managers and will actively encourage them to use our service in order to give young performers an opportunity to gain experience. Our unique aspect of using the profits to educate up and coming performers, is also a great incentive for our growing corporate and civic networks sectors as it allows them to contribute to their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) agenda. I already have 8 artists on the roster and I am actively seeking more. Ideally by the time we have the launch event I would like at least 20 young performers on the list. Examples of some of our artist s music can be found through the links below: Dom Hartley-Edwards Rebekah Buffong BNG Our other emerging artists can be viewed via our website - http://www.studentsofsound.co.uk Artist Representation Our aim is to help find quality events that will allow our artists to build theirpublic following and profile as a talented young performer. We offer a non-exclusive contract, which means they are not tied to us in any way and are not required to take any work we offer to them. Workshops The workshops will commence from September and will run for a period of 10 weeks at a time (one morning per week, currently set on a Saturday). During these sessions we will cover the main aspects of self-employment such as contracts, financial obligations, marketing, networking, business development, intellectual property, customer retention etc. The courses which are specifically targeting young performers (although not exclusively) will be free of charge and I will be engaging with corporate companies, to deliver the legal and financial sessions as part of their on-going CSR and community engagement activities. Why are we looking for funding? My vision for this launch event is to have a wide variety of event organisers, venues managers, sound and lighting equipment companies in attendance, to see the roster of young people perform and to explain the concept to them. I am also looking to attract more young people to come along and learn about the service. I would like to run the event before the end of July 2013. If you are an event organiser or wedding planner - this is an opportunity to get an excellent performer for your event/wedding at a great price and help a good cause at the same time - plus some promotion for your business see our £250 and £500 pledge rewards.
