The safehouses need food and rent in order to keep LGBT people safe. Our LGBT sisters and brothers need your help!

We're still collecting donations

On the 3rd January 2021 we'd raised £410 with 11 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

I live and work in North West England and have been working with Dembe, a wonderful and brave woman in Uganda, (name changed to protect her identity). She has set up a safe house and has been supporting LGBT+ people who have had to flee their own houses, and who fear state violence. Many have been beaten up by the police and raped. Imagine living in fear for your life every day?

Some of you helped us back in August, and we thank you. Some of you may not have helped yet. Either way, I am asking for  your urgent support.

Dembe is the best kind of person, she is proud and gentle, thoughtful and brave.

Covid-19 Lockdowns has meant it is hard for her and those in the safe house to earn any money, and with little by way of a welfare state and with so little to eat, some of those in the safe house have got sick, including with typhoid. The rent (£130 per month) is now three months overdue and they risk being made homeless.

The Government has anti-gay laws and bans homosexuality. It is an election year so they are coming down even harder on anyone they think is dissenting. This week they killed at least 50 people who were peacefully protesting. The people in the safe house are very scared.

There is so little we can do here in the UK to help, but one thing we can do is help provide medical supplies, food and rent costs for the safe house. This Christmas, please remember our brothers and sisters in Uganda who desperately need our help.

Every penny you donate will go directly to helping the people in the Uganda LGBT safe house.
