Aim: Help raise money to save 'Ackley Bridge' Stained Glass Window from being lost when St Catherine's High School is Demolished

Please help us to raise money to salvage the beautiful Dalle de Verre stained glass window from being demolished.

The site of the old St Catherine's High School is scheduled for demolition. It was the filming location of the TV show 'Ackley Bridge'.

It was built in 1957 and opened as St Thomas Moore's. It changed name in 1971 to Halifax Catholic High School and I attended there between 1986 and 1993.

Later it had a final name change to St. Catherine's High School and closed it's doors in 2013.

Since then it was used as filming locations for several programmes, most noteably 'Ackley Bridge'. Now that this programme has stopped filming the school building has fallen victim to theft and vandalism and is now scheduled to be demolished.

Within it's chapel is a stunning stained glass window made in the Dalle de Verre design. It has been a central part of the school since the 1970s and beloved by former teachers and pupils alike.

Because of this we would like to save this window from destruction. We need to raise money to have the window removed by experts in Dalle de Verre glass, and put into storage.

The hope is that we can then get an art gallery local or heritage centre in or around Halifax, West Yorkshire to keep or display the window.

It is a perfect example of the specialised Dalle de Verre technique and it would be a tragedy to lose it to a wrecking ball.

If you are willing to help any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Best wishes

Yva Bourke
