A Small Update

We cannot stress enough how thankful we all are. We really were somewhat mortified on the first day. I’d like to repeat what is said on our Project Page; none of us expected to raise all that much.

Time’s are very tough for a lot of people at the minute. But the sheer amount of support shown by all of you (especially if all you did was tell your binman) is astounding.

So if you’ve bought a booth, shared on social media, thrown in a tenner or listened to Dame Vera Lynn whilst tearfully drinking a glass of wine, thank you.

As for the update...

We are making progress! We have some genuine interest, have received some amazing support, and have a rough idea of how we’d operate. It is all still a work in motion but things are starting to take shape (it’s going to be a busy week!).

The aim is still the same. Open The Polar Bear as a C.I.C, pay it back into the community. I can confirm that if we do manage to hit our funding target, and get The Polar Bear back on its feet, we will have a ‘Community Board’ composed of, well, the community (that’s you).

We are not out of the woods yet though. We still need your continued support. Keep talking about it. Write to your MP. Definitely tell the binman.

You could even support some amazing local talent and support the cause at the same time?

Form, an amazing shop and studio on Humber Street, opened in halcyon days of 2016. Created by Joseph Cox and Alice Thomson it has being a purveyor of all things pleasant to the eye ever since.

Autosuggestion plies the post-punk genre like they invented it. Their bandcamp release is a live recording; it’s full of texture, piercing guitar licks and despondent, almost mesmeric, vocals. Follow them on bandcamp and catch them at a show as soon as you possibly can.

These Tote Bags created by Rowen Fullard are to die for. Inspired by dead bod (if you don’t know) and they come in a variety of different colours. They’re superbly lovely and wonderfully simple.

Splinters, who do wood and stuff, have created these proper twee coasters. Definitely a perfect gift for yourself, or my Nan, if anyone is feeling generous.

A big thank you to everyone who has dedicated time, money, and vocalizations to our cause. We'll be in contact very, very soon <3

Message In Time

In the unlikely event that I get full reign over the interior of The Polar Bear again I will be dedicating the main pool room wall to your messages. I'll use a basic stencil to apply them. Honestly, if it means something to you or if its just a funny word, I think it'd be something nice to look at.

Polaroid Picture (Shake It)

Daniel has a Polaroid camera, and I, for some reason, have a lot of film. I always wanted to pin up Polaroid pictures of my colleagues and my regulars behind the bar. We just never managed to sell all those Skint Northerner t-shirts.

Name A Booth

Those big semi-circular seats? They're actually listed. I know right. Crazy. They're older than your grandmother. Thankfully I'm not going to etch your chosen name into the woodwork. Cheesy brass plaque though?
