Aim: Help us STOP Aberdeenshire Council closing our Sheltered Housing. All donations big or small are hugely appreciated.

Aberdeenshire Council against sheltered housing

Aberdeenshire Council are proposing to close as many as 17 Sheltered Housing Complexes across Aberdeenshire, most of them dotted around smaller villages with no alternative accommodation. This constitutes as many as 300 homes being taken out of commission, in the midst of a HOUSING CRISIS! They are proposing to move all the tenants into alternative accommodation. There are NO houses available so where will we all go? Who will be our neighbours in general housing? What will do they do with our current homes?

We are a small group of tenants, families and interested parties working hard on behalf of ALL tenants affected, campaigning against the closures.

We are nearing the end of the road as the final decision is due to be made by the Communities Committee on the 4th of July 2025. In order to save our homes, we are seeking the assistance of a solicitor.  Our campaign is prepared to go as far as it takes legally, but this unfortunately costs money. As most of the people we are working so hard to protect, are people on very limited income, the only way we can move forward is with the generosity of our communities. Every pound will help get us to our goal.

Aberdeenshire council have been working on a plan for a number of years and generously allowed the tenants and public 4 weeks to get involved in their online consultation. This is discrimination against the very tenants they should be protecting. Tenants that are not well versed in technology are asked to take part in surveys and in raising questions on the councils website.

Please help us save our homes within Sheltered Housing not only for our current tenants but for all the people who will require these facilities in the future.

We have been in contact with our councillors, MSP's and MP's, whom we are lobbing for support. If our council and councillors allow this to happen, we will be losing not just the homes we live in but our neighbours who have become our families and our safe communities within our complexes.

Ø  It is a disgrace that the council feel that targeting the elderly and disabled is the easiest way forward.

Ø  It is unthinkable that the council feels this is the best course of action - due to THEIR mismanagement of funds.

Ø  Where is their duty of care to those tenants that have lived in their homes for 20+ years, paying rent and now their homes, their neighbours, their communities, their families are being ripped away from them?

Ø  There are many extremely unhappy Sheltered Housing tenants that are being made to give up their homes because the council are unable to work within a budget, they, themselves have set.

Ø  There is no regard to the effect that this has on people’s health and wellbeing.
