Why we need to keep our local area hygienically clean?
London is one of the populated city in Europe, not only the biggest city in the United Kingdom. According to the statistics show, London Metro area population area in 2024 is around 9.75 million is about 1.04% increase from the last year 2023 where it was 9.65 million people, again increase of 1.12% from 2022 which the population of London was 9.54 million people. Increasing density population in the city, this due to the fact that many people are attracted from gaining opportunities in the diverse cultural city, for example increasing environmental issues such as air pollution and levels of CO2 to raise gradually in most density populated areas such as underground stations, supermarkets and in major malls. Number of vehicle has also increased alongside with populations raising carbon monoxide and methane gaseous levels, which threatening our health in a daily basis.
There is a need for monitoring the air quality everyday for toxicity, pathogen levels, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, ozone and other greenhouse gases which may pose to be danger to human and animal health, NO2, and SO2 in combining with car exhaust pumps can produce lethal levels hazards and risks to residents.
According to the Imperial Environmental Research Group ERG in 2019, have found that between 3,000 to 4100 people have died due to attributed human-made air population, which resulted to human causes health risks and deaths from different illnesses, such as chronic lung diseases, respiratory complications, lung cancers and cardiovascular diseases. they added the factors were amongst population size raises, deprivation, age of population (mortality rate increases).
How can we improve and keep our environments safer?
Aim is to help and support the struggle to fight air pollution and create positive impact to our London community environments by:
- keeping environmental air monitoring in daily basis, weekly air indices monitoring by portable handheld devices and air particle counters would help maximise protection and reduce health risks. Additional £21,000 will be required to undertake surveys, location measurements, material and purchase aerosol detector.
- This work will help keep parks, and river sides where people like to visit safer by sharing data collected to the authority such as DEFRA, and Local Councils they will be able to maintain safety policies and measures to be taken, and put precautions for most affected areas.
- I will be able to involve a local volunteer to this project in the future to secure our local air we breath in everyday. This project will bring positive results, which will also help me to add into my future PhD thesis and write an article, share the data to local councils, Environmental protection agencies in London and DEFRA.
- Locals will be benefited from enjoying good air quality inner and suburban London vicinities such as Richmond Upon Thames and other parts.
So, help secure our "Air-We-Breath" in project for our better environmental air and better health for our children who attend to schools and play in the Parks.
