As pressures mount on the Royal School for the Blind in Wavertree, governors and trustees have taken what they describe as the “difficult” decision to close its residential home from next summer.
Open during term-time, the six-bedroom building provides vital placement and respite care for children and their families up to the age of 19. However, officials have confirmed they will no longer be able to provide overnight facilities as of July 2025 owing to considerable mounting financial issues.
The closure will leave many local parents without vital respite and a safe place these children can flourish and have individual needs met by a group of staff who they know and love.
