Back in January 2020 I started Saltire Street Band primarily as a band for street performances, weddings and corporate gigs. Since then the band has gone on to perform music festivals such as the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues festival, Tall Ships Festival Shetland and Mains Farm Festival playing a mixture of our own new original music, NOLA classics and up beat pop and funk covers.
Given the hugely positive response this has received from our audience and coupled with the enthusiasm and commitment of the musicians involved has convinced me that this music deserves to be recorded and widely disseminated. Our goal is to build on the growing awareness of our work, and to develop and create more new exciting music. To achieve this I am launching a new creative arm of the band called The Tammie Norries (Puffins!) project. This is inspired by our trip to the islands of Shetland and Jura, and the stunning scenery and nature we have here in Scotland. I feel that this EP will be an essential springboard within that process of music making to take us onto the next step of our journey.
Joining us will be Juanita Euka from London. Juanita is one of the UK's top voices singing on acclaimed records and festival stages around the globe regularly playing with bands including London Afrobeat Collective, Wara, Elianne Correa and many more. There are very few groups around the world who have combined vocals and the brass band genre in this way and we're super excited to bring this to you, but we need your help!
The playing credits of the players on this album include; SNJO, European Jazz Orchestra, Metropole Orkest, Heritage Orchestra, SCO, RSNO, Royal Opera House, Hue and Cry, Boy George, Scottish Ballet, Salsa Celtica and many more.
