SALFORD FAMILIES IN NEED MEALS PROJECT

RCN 1194165, Manchester

The Salford Families in need Meals Project is raising money. We are asking you please for a donation. Here's the reason why... Local families have told us that they want their children to read for pleasure. The nearest library is too far to walk. So, I completed a bid for a library, and to my amazement, we were successful. We now need children's and teenagers' reading books and cash donations to keep the supply of books refreshed, please. We have already raised the several thousands of pounds needed to provide fresh food, that these families will need to prep and cook, each week. We support up to 100 families each week, who struggle to make ends meet. Last Christmas, we covered the food costs for 379 families for the four weeks, thanks to peoples' generosity. Now we need to provide more support more frequently. We always need help to provide food for families in need. £8.50 provides a family with £40 to £50 of fresh food for a week. We are a fundraising charity (charity number 1194165) that exists for the benefit of the relief of poverty and of financial hardship, for those families in need with disadvantaged children. Principally, we raise these funds to provide a weekly food distribution hub to families in need with disadvantaged children, according to this charity object, in the City of Salford. We work closely with local organisations and are proud of the support and encouragement Salford CVS give us through advice and access to grant applications to help vulnerable groups be less vulnerable.

When SFinMP started in January 2021 we had no idea where would be in 18 months time. Originally, we thought we would feed 50 families on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. Today, we have raised over £30,000 to pay for a permanent food distribution hub that feeds up to 150 families, couples and single people each week for £7.50.

We work with the charity The Bread and Butter Thing who supply chilled food, fruit and vegetables and cupboard food. Each family receives around three 8kg bags of chilled, fruit and veg and cupboard food every week for £7.50

As our SFInMP charity has grown, and as more hear about what we offer, our numbers have grown. There has never been a time of greater need because people who are in our scheme tell us, they have a choice of 'heat or eat'.  Energy fuel costs are rising massively and families, couples and singles in need, cannot make ends meet.

So, we are looking to you and others, who might be able to help our charity by giving money to support these families.

We know that a £10 cash donation from you, will provide a week's worth of food for these families. Your generosity makes a huge difference.  On one occasion, we gave a £2.50 reduction to all families' food bags. We saw that those who collected food were smiling more than usual. They knew how tight money was. Some said the £2.50 would pay for sweets for their children. Others said, it would help feed the electricity meter.

In 2024, we raised funds to create a library. It would be great if you could donate money for us to purchase children's and adolescents' reading books - young people want to read for pleasure.
