In 2023 we want to employ a new generation of talent and artists and develop Muslim art and culture of the highest quality.

by Salaam Festival in Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Our festival story began at the start of lockdown in Apr 2020. It is a culmination of community members and artists designing a truly diverse and exciting new international festival programme in the city of Manchester.

After years of learning and patience we feel now is the time to put our collective resources, skills, and finances to work and represent Muslim art and culture at the highest quality possible.

Through the power of people we are confident we will raise the funds to produce a world class festival.

We are not building a mosque or supporting an international crisis, but addressing a crisis closer to home. Muslim communities are the least represented in the arts in both employment and art programmes across the UK. In order to change how we are seen and perceived it is important that we are a visible community that excels in the arts and become a cultural change maker to portray our faith and culture in the most positive and engaging way possible.

Furthermore, we do not want to rely on funding which is at the behest of approval, ticking of boxes and filled with processes that take weeks and months to complete. This certainly takes creativity, freedom and enjoyment out of making great art happen with great talent. This is a common hurdle that has left many minority communities and their artistic ideas excluded from making art and culture happen at scale.

We need 100,000 supporters to donate £10 each.

The festival itself will cost close to £1million to pay for staff, artists, venues, production companies, marketing and many more technical requirements that are needed when making something remarkable like this. We are absolutely certain we will achieve our target regardless of the timeframe with your support. We just need you to support and share this with 10 other friends and family members to help fundraise at the speed we wish.

We have a UK population of 3.5 million Muslims and a global community of 1.8 billion. We can do this!

Our long term plans are to create UKs first first Muslim contemporary art space in Manchester and this cannot happen without placemaking work of the highest standard. We believe Manchester is the city to make this happen as it represents multiculturalism, diversity, power of speech, protest and history contributed to by our Muslim ancestors who migrated here many years ago.

We are a not-for-profit CIC LTD and working towards charitable efforts in the city to help the homeless and vulnerable. If you wish to discuss how you would like to support the festival as a corporate partner then please email [email protected]

We look forward to your support ! It means everything to us!
