Who are we?
We are a collective of University of Derby Film students in our final year of study, dedicated to bringing important stories to life.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Football is more than a sport—it’s a dream for millions. But what happens when the dream doesn’t go ascplanned? "Safety Net" is a deeply personal and universally relatable story about love, dedication, and the harsh realities of the game.
Logline
A young working-class boy discovers his talent as a goalkeeper, guided by his passionate father. But after years of sacrifice, he faces the brutal reality of professional football—where talent alone isn’t always enough.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Any money raised will go towards the following components:
- paying for actors travel expenses
- equipment rental
- props & costume
- location hire
- festival submissions
and more.
Community impact
In the past two years, we have made multiple short-films around the Midlands, with the help of local communities. We are dedicated to helping the Midlands become a more sustainable environment for filmmaking, which will make the path to the industry more achievable for the working-class.
Our goal for this film in particular is to raise awareness about the lack of measures taken to ensure that young athletes are well prepared for the harsh reality of a career outside of playing sport.
How you can play your part
There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. A donation of any size will be massively appreciated and help us to make this film the highest quality possible.
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer services. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can use in our film. We are after things such as sports equipment, clothing and locations such as training grounds and football pitches.
