We want to make the streets safer!

by People First Keighley and Craven in Keighley, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

We have had an increase of hate crime reports of people being targeted because of their disability.

In response to this our members want to make the streets safer for people with learning disabilities, as well as for everyone else.

We want to ask for donations to help us pay for safety leaflets that members designed.

These leaflets have information in easy read manner and contain tips to help us look after ourselves when we are out and about, as well as when we are online. They are a compact design that fits into a wallet or pocket.

We are asking for donations to help us get more leaflets printed, the money will help us travel to different organisations to share our safety tips.

The money will help us pay for staff to support us to get there and share our safety workshop.

Our workshops are led by people with learning disabilities, where possible we invite professionals such as police officers, someone from a local hate crime reporting centre and a local safeguarding board member. We invite those people so we are encouraging people with learning disabilities to get involved with those local people who are there to help them feel safe.

This project encourages prevention of people making themselves vulnerable to targeted hate crime and also gives vital information about what to do if it does happen.

It is a project we are really proud of, it has helped in our area and we want to help others.
