RSPCA Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Sutton District Branch

RCN 210637, London

We are a self-funding branch of the RSPCA covering parts of South West London & North West Surrey. Whilst our two charity shops in SW18 are our main source of funding, we raise money to fund our animal welfare work to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and rescue, rehabilitate & rehome animals in need in our branch area. We specialise in rescuing & rehoming cats but also rehome rabbits & guinea pigs when our resources allow. Our financial assistance scheme helps local pet owners access veterinary care alongside our free microchipping events & we regularly support our local foodbanks with pet food supplies.

RSPCA Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Sutton District Branch

We are one of approximately 150 independent RSPCA branches operating across England & Wales. Our branch was registered in 1962 and cover the South West London and North West Surrey areas. We not only help animals directly from our branch area but also support our Inspectorate teams and often other branches with animals from further afield.

We're small but mighty - we love what we do and have a passionate team of nine Trustees who govern our branch and a small, hardworking team of animal welfare and retail staff who are the feet on the ground. There is never a quiet day in animal welfare!

Our main source of funding comes from our two charity shops in SW18, online and face-to-face fundraising activities. Some of our community activities involve free microchipping events, donation drops and education talks at schools. We also run a financial assistance scheme to help people access veterinary care for their pets along with a free dog neutering scheme with Wandsworth Council. Since 2020 we've also been regularly supporting our local foodbanks with pet food supplies for those in need, requests of which are sadly increasing.

We specialise in rescue and rehoming cats and more recently have been able to take in rabbits and guinea pigs as well. In 2023 we took in and helped over 180 animals live a better life. Many of the animals we help were living rough, abandoned, unwanted or cruelly mistreated by those who were supposed to look out for them. It can be heart breaking work but also the most rewarding when we can turn an animals life around.

Sadly, since the closure of our small rehoming centre based at Putney Animal Hospital, we've struggled to secure suitable cat boarding nearby so we achieve all of this using local foster homes and by renting two pens at another RSPCA branch. We can only help animals when space and funds allow, without our foster homes we simply couldn't do what we do for local animals. Our ambition is to one day have our own animal centre so we can help even more animals every year.

Supporting our branch would mean we can keep doing what we do. Each year our welfare team (of 2.5 people) drive approximately 15,000 miles carrying out welfare activities. Our shops are open 4,992 hours a year to raise the funds we desperately need all the time. Our veterinary costs exceed £25,000 per annum.

Your support would mean the world to us. We're not a huge branch but after a merge with a neighbouring branch in 2018 our area has doubled in size which means even more animals and people for us to help every single day.
