ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS KENT NORTH WEST BRANCH

RCN 210633, Dartford

We help animals and pet owners in need in all DA postcodes and BR8 Postcodes. Each year we rescue over 200 abandoned, stray or neglected animals. We work in the community to improve animal welfare via Emma, our own Animal Welfare Officer.

As a small, local charity, funded independently from the National RSPCA, your support is vital to allow us to continue to deliver our animal welfare services in all DA postcodes and BR8 postcodes. Unlike many organisations, we receive no government funding. We rely upon the generosity of people like you, through your donations, so we can help animals which have been victims of cruelty and neglect and contribute to the well-being of our community.

Sadly, the number of animals in need doesn't decrease, and unfortunately, our branch has witnessed a surge in abandoned pets since the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. Your support is crucial to ensure these animals get the help they need.

In 2023 we;

  • Took in 273 abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals (up 32% on 2022) including 80 rabbits and 100 cats, plus dogs, gerbils, fish and wildlife.
  • Spent £30,000 on veterinary bills and another £40,000 on caring for animals (up 30%).
  • Neutered over 100 animals including lots of XL Bully dogs.

In order to better serve our community, we have created a new role and employed Emma as our Animal Welfare, Community Engagement and Education Officer (ACE!)

Despite only working part time, Emma achieved all of this last year;

  • Drove her van 11,110 miles and transported well over 150 animals from danger to safety.
  • Collected and delivered over £1,000 worth of pet food to our local food banks.
  • Spoke to over 2,000 children about compassion for animals.
  • Transported ill pets to essential vet appointments for elderly owners, who would otherwise have had to be parted from their pets forever.
  • Rescued many stray and feral cats and reunited them with their owners or moved them forward to a safe new life.
  • Offered free cat microchipping to owners in financial hardship.

We believe that Emma’s work educates the next generation of pet owners about compassion for animals. It also provides a lifeline to struggling pet owners, keeping animals with those who love them. Finally, when all else has failed, she is there to rescue the most desperate animals. Last year this cost £18,000 but we believe this is money very well spent.  We are asking for your help to keep Emma doing this vital work.

Emma changes the lives of animals in need, works with the community, to educate and advise and improves the quality of life for animals in partnership with the National RSPCA. Please can you please help us to keep her in the road for another year?
