ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS CREWE, NANTWICH AND DISTRICT BRANCH

RCN 256976, Nantwich

We primarily care for and rehome animals in our area. We give advice and lend equipment to members of the public. We operate a low cost neutering scheme with the local authority, for animal owners who are in need of benefit. The Branch subsidises the treatment of animals whose owners can not afford the full cost of vital veterinary treatment.

ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS CREWE, NANTWICH AND DISTRICT BRANCH

In 2023 we supported a cat neutering scheme in Winsford, the scheme was for families on a lower income who would not have previously been able to afford to have their cat neutered.

In 2024 we would love to continue this in throughout the district and broaden the scheme to include the neutering of rabbits too!

Whilst it is widely known that a side effect of having unneutered animals is an increase in the number of offspring being produced - the phrase breeding like rabbits doesn't come from nowhere! - Many people aren't aware of the health risks associated with keeping an unneutered cat or rabbit.

Rabbits are at a higher risk of developing cancer if not neutered, 80% of rabbits who aren't neutered by the age of 3 are likely to develop some form of ovarian or testicular cancer.

Cats who are unneutered have high hormone levels which can lead to a lot of fighting, which in turn leads to increased levels of FIV in the population.

On top of that, the cost of living crisis means that people who end up with unwanted litters of kittens (both cat and rabbit offspring are called kittens!) can't afford to look after them or neuter them too, which puts them in a vicious cycle and increases the pressure on either their finances or the work of the branch as we will have to take in those unwanted kittens.

Our aim with this neutering scheme is to allow the public to keep their pets healthy and in their homes, without the worry of the cost of neutering their beloved pets.

Please help us to support our local community by helping them to neuter their cats and rabbits.
