Many people already know my story, but for those new to this page I would like to introduce myself .
Who am I and What do I do?
My name is Rose . I am 36 years old and I live in Cardiff. I previously raised money to purchase a van , and now I’m raising money to help maintain the van and continue my work .
I work in several ways , I have referrals for asylum seekers in new accommodation which is often very poor and often things are needed like blankets , rugs, kettle , tv. Home furnishings curtains , pillows, a lamp , a phone charger , an extension lead . Simple things we have lying around spare at home or in the garage which have no value to us but those items are desperately needed by others.
How do I find items needed ?
I have a WhatsApp group with 200 people in and also via Facebook I do a weekly shoutout. I request things that are needed and the amazing community pull together and find the items. I then collect them in my van and deliver them to those who need. Sometimes other people will deliver the items directly , I’m very blessed to be surrounded by very supportive people.
Why do I need to raise funds?
Sometimes I am unable to find items required and sometimes despite getting items needed, some people just need a little financial support . Also we try and collect food for families and if we are short then we will use funds raised to purchase a food shop.
There are often opportunities to buy bulk items , like men’s trainers and socks and boxers etc which are often needed and hard to find via collextions.
Perhaps a student needs a computer and the college has been unable to assist , or perhaps a family need a firestick so they can watch news back home with such awful events happening around the world. Perhaps there is no room in their tiny rooms for a wardrobe so we find under bed storage or a clothes rail. There’s so many things that we are able to collect from others , but sometimes we need to buy them.
Now it is fast approaching Ramadan and I have many families who need food and I also have a hotel where I have been authorised to do a distribution of Islamic items and so I am hoping to use funds to purchase water and dates and maybe some treats and activities for children.
