Get started with Crowdfunder

Aim: Making our community-planted woodland accessible to all - especially children - by installing a bench, bin and tree identification boards.

This crowdfunder aims to welcome local residents to the lovely woodland on Rose Hill Recreation Ground.  We want all our neighbours to own the trees – so they know about them, look after them and enjoy the free apples.

WHAT DO WE WANT?

We are collecting money to install a picnic bench, bin and display boards with a chart to help residents to identify 12 of our native trees. Please donate £5 or more!

WHAT WILL WE DO?

Over the next two years, we plan to work with Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, the Oxford University Nature Club and the Arboretum to develop tree trails for adults and children, aiming to raise knowledge about the woodland so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The total project cost of our Woodland Project will be about £6,000. We have already raised £2,500 and have applied for match funding. We are hoping to raise £1,000 from this crowdfunder. If we receive more than expected, we will order an extra display board and tree identification booklets.

WHEN WERE THE TREES PLANTED?

Over 100 local residents planted more than 800 trees between 2015 and 2020. For the first three years, we mulched them every spring and watered them all in summer dry spells. In 2021, we planted 32 fruit and nut trees in the school grounds, which we help the children to care for. In 2024 over 15 bags of fruit were picked from the apple trees in the Rec.

WHAT IS RHILC?

Rose Hill and Iffley Low Carbon (RHILC) is a community group of volunteers who got together in 2012. Our aim is to involve local people in cutting pollution, protecting nature and living sustainably. Every two months we run a free repair café at Rose Hill Community Centre, where volunteers mend bikes, electricals, clothes and jewellery. Since 2013, we have campaigned successfully for solar panels on the community centre, school, 76 social homes and the new blocks of flats near The Oval. We do free thermal imaging every winter to help people save energy at home and helped 31 local residents to install heat pumps between 2023 and 2025.
