Funding a series of events exploring black music history through reggae. We aim to bring together a community to celebrate black excellence.

by ROOTS in Margate, Kent, United Kingdom

ROOTS is a celebration of the history of reggae and it’s impact on music and culture through the years. It will be old-school blues dance that takes an audience from the Early 20th Century conception of reggae to its current form today.

We are planning to put on 5 primary events, each exploring a different wave of the reggae movement, as well as other smaller-scale events.

Each event has a lineup of DJs, MCs, live bands, and other acts that fit the theme of the night. We are drawing a focus on young black voices, while paying homage to the greats who paved the way.

ROOTS will not only be a space for Jamaican people to connect to their roots through music, community, food and drink; it will be an experience for ALL people to learn and appreaciate black history.

The events will take place at Olby's Soul Café / Olby's Creative Hub - Margate.

We are looking for TALENT, MCS, DJS, SOUNDSYSTEMS, MIXOLOGISTS, CATERERS, ARTISTS, POETS, ALL ROUND CREATIVE PEOPLE to help us on our journey.

If this is you or you'd like to know more, email us at [email protected]

Please help us reach our funding target as we want to pay everyone involved fairly. By doing this, we aim to put power back into the voice of the public and young black creatives in Thanet.
