The Cause
Mum would have been 68 today. Taken far to early and missed every day.
We wanted to do something as a permanent memorial for mum but we were not sure what to do?.......then, we decided on the idea of a stained glass window in the new upgraded, extended and refurbished Frimley, Hastings and Bexhill Mencap in London Road, St Leonards-on-Sea where mum dedicated so much time and love.
A large part of the money has been raised but we need to raise the rest. If anyone would like to contribute for £2 entry - we would be very very grateful for any help.
The window is designed and made by a local artist Alison Purdy of Alison Purdy - Glass & Mirror Designs. For 20 years mum was Barn Owl then Brown Owl at St Luke, Silverhill. Alison was a Brownie Guide and Girl Guide with us there - mum would have been so excited for Alison's amazing creation.
Mum first started her career working for Mencap in 1984, first starting part-time, then very quickly became manager of Open Door Day Centre. During her 38 years of working for Mencap, she made huge differences to many peoples lives. Many people will have undoubtedly benefited by knowing her, be these her centre members, members of staff, volunteers or people passing through. Its also where she started the Special Olympic Team for our area so it feels a very appropriate place where it will appreciated by many that knew her.
Thank you in advance for all your help and messages, especially today on her birthday. It is such a comfort to know how loved mum was by so many people.
