2Roko 20 Academy was set up to provide children with a free primary school education. Education in Kenya is supposed to be free however there are many 'charges' required to be paid and families in our community find it a constant struggle. Children miss vital months of schooling as they are regularly sent home from school until the outstanding fee is paid.
Most families are barely managing to survive on income received from small scale farming and lucky to put one meal a day on the table. Elderly grandmothers are often left to raise young grandchildren without support.
Roko 20 currently sponsor 98 children from the local community to an education.
Standard sponsorship costs £18 a month. This includes text and exercise books, food, a uniform and transport. Full sponsorship costs £28 and includes extras such as school trips, additional uniform and clothes and access to healthcare. Our dormitory accommodates the most vulnerable girls at school providing a safe place to learn for just £7 a month.
