Logline: A reserved woman revisits childhood VHS tapes, unravelling buried memories and unsettling inconsistencies that challenge everything she thought she remembered about her past.
We are a student, Final Major Project group creating a psychological drama short film, called Rewind about two siblings reminiscing on childhood memories by watching VHS tapes only for their childhood to be different to how they remember.
The money raised will go towards funding locations, props and actors for our film, the more money raised the better quality the final production will be.
Inspiration:
Inspiration from other films played a huge part in deciding the look and aesthetics we aim to achieve with our own film. Below is a compilation of scenes from various films and television shows, handpicked by our crew, that helped inspire Rewind. Enjoy!
'When creating the narrative of 'Rewind', I conducted extensive research into other films and shows to help inspire my own film. This included Aftersun (2022), and the way they blended past and present with VHS recordings, Stand By Me (1986) with the siblings dynamic shown through flashbacks of the past, and Eternal Sunshine For A Spotless Mind (2004), and how the film explores different emotional responses individuals can have to grief.' - Lucy, Director
'As a cinematographer, I have been inspired by a variety of different film makers. Below is a mood board of some of the lighting inspiration I have had and want to utilise in our film, as well as some other visual inspiration for shots and angles I would like to use within the film.' - Dylan, Cinematographer
'I was inspired by these examples to incorporate the use of match cuts to connote the feeling of loneliness. I will also utilise eyeline match cuts as used in Take Shelter, which allows the audience to see the main characters perspective and understand their feelings more.' - Abbey, Editor
Meet our crew:
Hi I'm Lucy and I'm the director for Rewind!
After years of directing short films, pilots and music videos, I'm so excited to be bringing to life a much larger scale project.
Rewind explores grief, nostalgia, and the dynamics within sibling relationships, experiences that I’ve personally been through and have shaped who I am today. i hope our film can entertain, but also allow people to connect emotionally with the characters, and relate to their experiences.
Hi I’m Stevan and I’m the producer on rewind.
I was attracted to the position of producer as I am a people person, I’m good at liaising and problem solving.
I was attracted to rewind as I thought the vision was unique and told the story in an interesting way, making it immediately something I wanted to be a part of.
Hi I’m Dylan and I'm really excited to be the cinematographer for Rewind!
Cinematography has been a passion of mine for a long time, and I’ve been inspired by many different films and cinematographers over the years, and I knew that for my FMP I wanted to showcase what I have learnt.
It is my job to take our directors unique vision and make it a reality, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
Hello there, I’m Euan I’m the head of sound design for rewind.
Since joining Solent, I've gained a liking for sound production, and rewind allows me to use sound in a way that conveys emotions and to be used as a tool for storytelling.
Hi I’m Abbey and I’m the Editor for Rewind!
I’ve been editing for a few years now, in my own time and also for my course. I knew for my final project I wanted to make a collaborative film that showcases everything we’ve learnt in these past few years.
I can’t wait to edit for this production and hope you all enjoy the work we put out.
