We provide services to the communities across rural Dorset (not Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch), South Wiltshire around the Salisbury area and South Somerset around the Yeovil area. Whilst a Federated member of the national Relate charity, we are very much a separately owned, local charity who have been running since 1998.
We are so much more than just “marriage guidance”! We know how important relationships with friends, family, colleagues and ourselves are and the impact they can have on our mental health and how we interact with the wider world. Our vision is for everyone to have thriving relationships at every stage of their lives. This means we want to offer a wide range of inclusive relationship support services, that meet the changing needs people have from childhood, all the way through to old age.
We offer a range of counselling services for children and young people and adults. For children and young people, from ages 5 through to 21 years, we are there to help them with any issue, from problems with friends, anxiety, exam pressure, worries about their sexuality to problems with family break ups or becoming a blended family. For adults, as well as offering relationship counselling, we also offer individual counselling to help with other issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem or bereavement.
We also offer a range of programmes aimed at reducing Domestic Abuse by changing the behaviour of those committing the abuse. We offer Choose 2 Change for men who are abusive, Time 2 Change for women who are abusive and an awareness and prevention programme for refugees.
In addition to this we are a NACCC accredited Supervised Child Contact Centre, offering a safe, monitored environment for children to meet with non-resident parents, who might otherwise be at risk of harm for a variety of reasons. We work with both Court ordered contact cases and private cases.
As an outward looking organisation we are also keen to develop and add new services as we identify new relationship support needs that aren't being met and are keen to work in partnership with other organisations.
Because we don't receive any direct funding, we do have to make a charge for many of our services. Whilst we try to keep these as low as possible, we do not want to exclude anyone from our services on the basis of affordability which is where our fundraising and you can make a real difference!
