Help Us Honour Harvey’s Legacy and Give Shane a New Purpose

In June 2025, we said a heartbreaking goodbye to our beautiful friend Harvey after a catastrophic leg injury. Despite the immediate support of our incredible vet team and doing everything we possibly could, his injury was simply too severe.

Harvey was more than just a pony. He was a beloved teammate at Gul—a calm, kind, and intuitive presence who supported hundreds of vulnerable people through riding and equine therapy. His loss has left a huge hole in our hearts and in the work we do.

Now, we have the chance to honour Harvey’s legacy by giving another pony a future full of purpose, connection, and healing.

Meet Shane

Through our long-standing relationship with The Blue Cross as an approved rehoming centre, we were introduced to Shane—a bright, curious, and affectionate 3-year-old chestnut gelding. Shane has all the makings of a remarkable therapy pony. And just like Harvey once did, he needs a second chance and a meaningful role.

But we need your help to make it happen.

Why This Matters

Gul is a small outdoor therapy charity working with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. We offer a safe, supportive environment where individuals can reset their mental health, rebuild confidence, and find hope again—often through the quiet, healing presence of our animals.

The bond between human and horse is powerful. For someone struggling with trauma, addiction, anxiety, or disconnection, that bond can be transformative. Harvey understood that instinctively. We believe Shane can carry that gift forward.

But Shane is still very young. At Gul, we never ask our ponies to work before they’re four—for welfare and training reasons. That means we have a year ahead of preparation, care, and gentle guidance before Shane will be ready to take on his new role.

What We Need

To bring Shane home and support his training and welfare through the next year, we need to raise £5,000. This will cover:

• His adoption fee from The Blue Cross

• Feed, bedding, and regular farrier visits

• Vet checks and preventative care

• Training, enrichment, and socialisation

• A calm, safe environment to grow and learn

Every donation, no matter the size, will help us give Shane the start he deserves—and ensure that Harvey’s legacy continues to shine through every life this young pony will touch.
