In March/April last year, we saw the Covid 19 pandemic approaching and knew would be overwhelmed if we didn’t act quickly. Our department, transformed our Theatre Suite into a Red Covid Unit with the Recovery Area becoming an Intensive Care Unit. This took our critical care bed capacity up to 300% of our normal capacity. This required an immense amount of effort and organisational skill, teamwork and problem solving, and involved input from many departments.
To staff the unit, many of the team were quickly upskilled to become Intensive Care staff. This is a world away from our normal roles but we did it, it worked and the patients care delivered was outstanding. It was an incredible achievement but it was a stressful time for all, and it has changed our lives forever.
During that time, we chatted about when we would be allowed to come together to celebrate. And so, we are throwing a party to honour the team. And we are doing it with goodwill, fundraising, volunteers and a lot of help from local people, & you!
We have a stage with local bands booked to play, we are hoping for a marquee, as we do live in Scotland after all! We will have food, drink and entertainment including a bouncy castle and silent disco, and this will all be provided in a safe, clean & secure outdoor area.
Turns out that events like this aren't cheap. We are running raffles and throwing bake sales, but to succeed we need support from you too.
