What is "Red Hare's Wish"

Red Hare's Wish is a new musical based on the Chinese Classic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.  This original stage musical features new compositions combining traditional East Asian motifs with retro-modern polish. Created and performed by a full team of creatives of the Asian diaspora. In one simple tagline, this show is Chinese Hamilton! 

Who are you?

The production company Um Actualee is a theatre collective focused on the celebration of East Asian culture but also mixing in contemporary elements. This unique blend of Eastern traditions and modern Western motifs defines the artistic approach of Um Actualee. Enrico Liou and Jialun Qi founded the company.

Enrico Liou is a theatre director specializing in musical theatre from Taiwan based in London graduated from East 15 Acting School with a Master's in Theatre Directing. Having directed a 90-minute musical in 2019 for this Graduation Play at National Cheng Chi University. Having studied in Taiwan, the UK, the US, and Australia, his multicultural background and creative ingenuity make him the perfect lead for the artistic director for Red Hare's Wish. This is his official directorial debut as the head of a musical project and the debut of his production company

Jialun Qi is an engineer based in Western Australia who has been writing music for over a decade. This piece that we are presenting will be an advanced showcase of Act 1 but we’ve altered and added on to it to make it feel more like a complete story.

Isa Huiling Liu is a visionary theatre producer based in London, with a diverse background as a former medical-diplomatic professional in South America and West Africa. Her extensive international experience has endowed her with exceptional team management skills. Additionally, she holds a Master's degree in Acting, making her an ideal theatre producer, particularly in multicultural settings.

What Is "Red Hare's Wish" about?

168BC, Imperial China, the final years of the Han Dynasty. Struggling through a time of famine and unrest, frustrated by her own inaction, Liu Bei, a sandal maker, joins the army with her sworn brothers, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.

Cao Cao, a fugitive wanted for the attempted assassination of the tyrannical Lord Regent, schemes his way into the rebelling Coalition in a bid for power.

Lu Bu, a psychopathic warrior under the Lord Regent’s employ, struggles with a lifetime of violence and envy as he falls in love with a woman who hates him.

With compassion, wit, or cruelty, they each attempt to shape a kingdom that embodies their ideals as their paths converge.
