A Single Mum’s Plea: Help Me Rebuild My Trashed Home
For nearly 20 years, I rented my property to a couple who were model tenants. But everything changed when the boyfriend left. My remaining tenant fell into the wrong crowd, lost her job, and turned to drugs. Despite my efforts to help—setting up payment plans and offering support—she fell deeper into arrears. Then, in December, she disappeared.
When I arrived at the property, my heart sank. The house was completely unsecured, abandoned, and destroyed. It had clearly been used as a drug den—needles, spoons, and belts were scattered everywhere. Even worse, the copper pipes from the radiators and boiler had been ripped out, likely sold for drug money.
I had hoped my insurance would cover the £30,000 in repairs, but due to a cap on malicious damage, I received just £3,700—barely enough to put down a deposit for a builder. I’m now stuck in a devastating financial hole. Selling the house as-is would leave me in even more debt, and without rental income, I’m struggling to support my three children.
I have no family to turn to—my mum passed away nearly 20 years ago, and I have no other support system. I am reaching out to my community in desperation. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help me rebuild this home and regain financial stability.
If you can help, I would be forever grateful. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
