REFOCUS FOR KIDS Summer Programme 2025

Aim: The REFOCUS FOR KIDS summer programme was launched in 2020 to support children whose education and wellbeing were disrupted by the COVID-19

 REFOCUS FOR KIDS is a grassroots initiative based in Handsworth, Birmingham. Our team is made up of passionate youth workers, community advocates, and mentors connected through Prison Links—an organisation committed to preventing young people from entering the criminal justice system.

In 2020, we saw firsthand how the pandemic disrupted children’s lives, particularly those from marginalised backgrounds. Schools closed, support systems disappeared, and many young people were left vulnerable to negative influences. So we launched REFOCUS FOR KIDS—a summer programme that offers a safe space, structure, and purpose during the long school holidays.

Our vision is simple but powerful: to help children refocus their futures by building their confidence, developing life skills, and giving them positive experiences that last a lifetime.

Each summer, we run a programme where children take part in developmental workshops in the mornings—covering topics like emotional resilience, teamwork, conflict resolution, and self-worth—and enjoy fun leisure activities in the afternoons, such as sports, trips, creative arts and team games. This balance of structure and joy has made a real impact, and we’ve seen children return each year more confident and better equipped to face life’s challenges.

Until now, the programme has been funded by the Community Fund. But this year, due to changes in funding availability, we’re facing a gap. That’s why we’re reaching out to raise £10,000—to cover staff costs, venue hire, workshop materials, transportation for trips, meals, and safeguarding provisions.
