20th October 2021 - Project Update: Full Planning Application Approved by Thanet District Council, for mixed use incorporating; exhibition, event, performance & community space, artist studios, bar & kitchen and a biodiversity supporting upper deck garden seated area.
This is a project to renovate & convert a 130-year old, 50-metre Dutch barge 'Vriendschap' (Dutch for Friendship) into a 'not-for-profit' community arts & cultural space to be permanently moored alongside Harbour Parade in Ramsgate Royal Harbour. The project is led & operated by Ramsgate Arts Barge Community Interest Company, with 'Vriendschap' legally owned as a community asset.
Help us reach the £20,000 Crowdfunder target to get the Ramsgate Arts Barge onto dry-dock to complete the 1st phase of the project which is internal strip-out and waste clearance, which will engage our 100+ volunteer team.
The Ramsgate Arts Barge will be an accessible, multi-disciplinary arts & cultural space hosting; visual arts exhibitions, art installations, performances, comedy, acoustic music, cabaret, theatre, film screenings, spoken word, poetry, art classes & courses, in addition to community events, debates, talks & seasonal markets.
Operating as a Community Interest Company, profits will be reinvested to provide access to the arts via complimentary art classes, courses, workshops & programmes for children 2-16 years of age living within the Thanet District, which ranks as the most deprived local authority in the South East (Department for Work and Pensions/HMRC, 2020).
Our art classes, courses, workshops and programmes will have a positive effect on children living within the Thanet District to increase mental wellbeing, create higher self esteem, improve concentration skills, aid social-emotional development, increase cognitive development, develop social & communication skills, increase feelings of independence and self perception, increase feelings of pride, achievement & happiness.
