The MENA CSR team first started this hugely popular ‘Iftar Meals for Labourers’ initiative in 2017 with the aim to distribute a wholesome meal within Dubai’s labour camps during the Holy Month of Ramadan. These camps are often densely populated by the hard working but low-income and semi-skilled labourers who migrate to Dubai for work opportunities but can often experience difficult working conditions.
The Iftar box we provide consists of a warm chicken biryani, yoghurt and a bottle of water. Each parcel typically costs around 10-12 AED (2.50 GBP). Thanks to the many kind donations made by colleagues across EMEA, the MENA CSR team together with dedicated volunteers have hand-delivered more than 8,000 Iftar meals to date
Kind donations from colleagues across the network has allowed this initiative to grow every year, enabling us to reach more and more deserving people in the camps and this Ramadan 2025 with your support, we are targeting to distribute 2,000 meals and set a new MUFG record!
What problem does this solve?
The realities of life in the Labour camp needs to be seen, for it to be understood. Our initiative is a small drop in the ocean but it goes some way to show those less fortunate that we appreciate the hard work and contribution they make to our society. We can’t solve their working conditions but we can show them colleagues at MUFG care about them by providing a warm meal for Iftar.
