Raising the Standard

When I walked Wainwright's Coast to Coast in 1991 the weather was so bad we had to keep to the road. I did go back to Nine Standard Riggs later. I have a weekly blog called 'The Secret Diaries of a Long-distance Walker' Facebook page. It is being read 63 countries. Do take a look. T he 1991 walk is included. Went to see the Standards for the first time a couple of weeks ago. What a wonderful place.

I am delighted to be able to contribute to keeping this wonderful footpath open! Hoping to get up there this summer, with luck the work will have started...

I've had so much enjoyment out of our local fells. It's time to give something back.

We walked the C2C last year, it was like the Somme going beyond 9 Standards Rigg. Happy to contribute but with the amount of money which comes into the local economy by way of C2C walkers, this should be centrally funded. Why oh why does so much money go into cycling projects and not walking??!!

We walked the first half of the C2C as far as Keld in May last year, really pleased to be able to support the appeal to improve this section and restore the peat. Good luck with the project !

Good luck with the project. I walked the c2c alone in 2011 (spectacular walk)and nearly got stuck at Nine Standards. Paving stones would have been great back then!

Have many good memories of our C2C in 2010. Thanks for all your hard work in maintaining the route.

Well remember this bit of C2C, we teamed up with others and 'rescued each other' along the way. Would have been scary alone! Restoring the peat and making this section less hazardous will be a great improvement.

This section can be quite worrying especially when wet. Brilliant idea to make it safer & more enjoyable.

This is a bleak area. This footpath will bring a great improvement to both walkers and the peat bogs.
