We run a centre for homeless and disadvantaged people in Salford providing a range of services to support people to improve their lives.

by Nicola Daly in Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

We are a charity in the heart of Salford helping those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness and requiring support and guidance with the day to day issues of living and dealing with our current economic struggles.

We are currently recording over 2000 people a month visiting our Drop-In centre for some kind of support, which is an average of 100-120 people a day. This figure will be predominantly more in the colder months and is likely to double this winter.

We have 2 centres in Salford located at 1&3 Paddington close, a Drop-In Centre and a Skills for Life Centre. We have a great volunteer team and 12 paid staff members across the 2 sites who work in various areas, and we support anyone who needs help.

Our Drop-In centre is open to the public from 9am until 2pm (appointments after this time) and our Skills for Life centre is open from 9am until 4pm or 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Our Drop-in centre offers -

* Support workers helping with any issues a person may face

* Hot and cold drinks, breakfast and a nutritional lunch each day (an average of 80 lunches a day).

* We are a warm hub in the colder months

* We have a pool table and host events such as bingo.

* We have a garden that we run well-being  sessions in as well as having a community plot at RHS Bridgewater that we visit every week.

* We have a shower and laundry facilities

* We supply emergency food and toiletry provisions and have clothing on site.

- The NHS inclusion service are based on site with a nurse and doctor available.

- An optician runs a clinic once a fortnight

- Salford Foodbank are based with us twice a week as are Salford Council's housing teams.

Our Skills for Life centre offers a holistic approach to help people work towards employment, sessions include -

* Happy Monday Arts and Crafts

* Employability sessions

* Computer courses

* ESOL classes

* Yoga

* Recovery services

* 1-1 Digital Inclusion support

All of the above is FREE we do not charge for any of our services.  It is the aim and vision of our trustees, staff and volunteers to continue to offer these services for as long as they are needed.  We survive solely on donations and funding we receive and therefore, we cannot continue to deliver this vital support without your help.
